Cades Cove Primitive Baptist Church

Hey Friends, long time no see... the hubby & I have started camping again ...so I have stocked up on a few churches and cemeteries ... let's get into sharing. This week I am sharing "Cades Cove Primitive Baptist Church, Organized June 16th, 1827" so says the sign beside the front there. I have always loved history, but I think most recently I have really just fell madly in love with all the historical sites we get to see ...the tombstones are so amazing, I wish I could know their story ...I guess I could google them and find out more. Such history. Hope you do enjoy!!! If you ever get the chance to be in Tennessee, Great Smoky Mtns, get back Cades Cove ...you will be amazed by the beauty. Lots to visit and see. Please don't forget your camera. Never a dull moment. Please join us at "InSPIREd Sunday" Hope you are well this week. Be Well & Be Blessed. Thank you for stopping by. Take care. Beth ( ;

...Beth, and here I thought that you had fallen off the face of the earth, what a relief. What a great little white country church.

That church looks simple but I'm sure the worship there was very meaningful.

That is such a simple, primitive, beautiful, plain building.

You found a nice one this week and went inside. It is very basic and I have done across Primitive Baptist Churches here as well

We camped in the Smoky Mtns in the 90s. Drove through Cades Cove but don't remember that church. Amazing headstones too.

These churches with little windows always look strange to me - and I'm always surprised t how much light gets in side!
...
Now, I just had to google Russell Gregory and here are two of apparently many un confirmed versions of his murder
1) his son was a Confederate and was part of a raiding party which his father had fired on. he told the rebels that it was his father and they later went to his home...
2) angered that some Confederates had shot one of his cattle, Russell confronted them and was then shot himself
whatever the real story, it is certainly in interesting that his stone determines that he was 'murdered' not just 'killed'.
