Dungeons and Dragons Park, Illinois

We did try to get your camper friends to go with us on a trip a bit farther away from Gunn Creek Campground, but they didn't I feel understand the love for art and just feeling like a kid. Adults can always be a kid ...you never will lose your kid like self ...if you do things you love. We are not players of Dungeons and Dragons, BUT WE LOVE ART. Art of all sorts, when you are creative you just show your passion... a passion for so so so many things ... art of cars, people, jewelry, camping, whatever ... ART is ART. Never allow any one to tell you that what you are doing is not art.

Dungeons and Dragons Park (Castle Park) Carbondale, Illinois. 31 Homewood Drive, Carbondale, IL. Admission: Free, but donations are welcome. "Sword and sorcery lives in a misty, undefined time, but the dawn of Dungeons & Dragons Park can be pinpointed: August 22, 1993. It was on that date that 19-year-old Jeremy "Boo" Rochman died in a car crash on Giant City Road, only a few hundred feet from his home. Jeremy's dad, Barrett Rochman, president of an investment firm, bought 3.5 acres across the street from the Rochman house. He wanted to build a memorial park, and decided to give it a Dungeons & Dragons theme because Jeremy loved D&D. He hired sculptors, carvers, and painters to create Tolkien-inspired art in wood, stone, tile, metal, cement. Some of it was modeled on Jeremy's hand-painted D&D miniatures, found among his effects after his death."

I think if I had to pick a favorite character ... the top dragon was my fave ...he was so life like ... wish he would have winked at me. SO COOL!!! I am so sorry that this family lost their son. I am truly thankful for this art in his memory, some one is just a creative soul. I hope you can see the detail and know that no matter your age you can enjoy this. What fun! Thank you for stopping by today. Hope you are well. Take Care. Be Well & Be Blessed!!! Beth ( ;

Yes it is sad that they lost their son but oh my what a fun memorial to him. I don't do D&D either but I can appreciate art. I liked that first dragon too.

I lost track of you during my break from blogging. (Formerly Rubbish by Roan and now The Crow's Nest) Happy to have found you again. I passed by Carbondale on many occasions, but had no idea this park was there. I'm selling my house in Illinois, so may not have occasion to go through there again, but if I do will make it a point to stop.
