Harrisburg Covered Bridge, TN

Harrisburg Covered Bridge, Sevier County, TN. off US Highway 441.

"400 yards south this bridge was built over the East Fork of the Little Pigeon River in 1875 by Elbert Stephenson Early, an area resident who owned Newport Mills. The bridge had deteriorated and its loss was threatened until it was restored in 1972 through the joint efforts of the Great Smokies Chapter and the Spencer Clack Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution." (plaque one)

"The Harrisburg Covered Bridge, located in Sevier County, Tennessee, was built by Elbert Stephenson Early in 1875 and restored in 1972. That restoration was a joint effort through the Great Smokies Chapter of the Daughter's of the American Revolution along with the employees of the Sevier County Highway Department.

John Smelcer, Highway Superintendent, and the Sevier County Highway Department employees, along with the Sevier County Court received a federal grant and completely restored the structure as close to the original bridge as possible. This work was completed in early 2005" (plaque two)

There were two plaques located very close to the covered bridge, felt they were neat info. you might enjoy reading about the bridge. I will say that we have been to plenty covered bridge throughout the US, we search them out and we LOVE THEM so. This one was pretty short in length, not really that spectacular but what I appreciate extremely of the folks who take care of it, the dedication of what and how much they go through to keep it up and looking great!! As always I wish that kids (or adult that have not learned proper manners, we seem to find lots of vandalism in these covered bridges, really breaks my heart. I am thankful my parents took the time to teach me respect and love for places like this!) these days would realize the history, the respect we need to show this pieces of history ...never destroy, never harm, take pics, enjoy a picnic ...leave no trace, keep memories. Thank you for stopping by today. Hope you are well. Take Care. Be Well & Be Blessed!! Beth ( ;

Dells Mill, Augusta, Wisconsin

"Dells Mill", in Augusta, Wisconsin ...was a huge learning experience. Gus Clark, the museum guide was so great.

i just went to the website, to share the link with you guys and i see that Gus did pass away. i am trying to check my notes to see when we were there. we were trying to recall the day. my parents anniversary is August 24th. apparently the day he past away. (he was telling us that he did have some health issues, no details, but i thought he looked ok?) he was so cool. he was very descriptive and so fun to listen too. the mill had been in his family for years. he was just like a real history book. such a loss. (i just checked my notes we were there Thurs. 8/21) i hope he knew we enjoyed our visit. we told him so. thanked him for his time & explained we love seeing the odd, the different & the usual places throughout the US.
