The structure was 1 of the 2 antebellum octagonal houses built in Alabama and is the only 1 to survive.

Clayton, AL is a fun, quiet, quaint, slow paced, area of Alabama ... we really did find a lot of smaller towns to check out on this recent trip in late April 2023, we got around a bit of South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama which we had 1 week to explore. We asked the locals, I would so recommend that to anyone who is looking for great finds (be it for food, shopping, off the wall locations, get a list going, you never know what they might suggest!!!) in all travel locations, great tip there!!! They did suggest this fun restaurant. I preferred the bologna sandwich (makes me think of my childhood, the good ole' days. My parents would fry me up a piece for a sandwich, it was simple but so so so good. This was THICK CUT BOLOGNA though, ever had that???) over the chicken one. So fun to check them out ...they are a recommendation of the ladies who were cooking there. I didn't realize that Alabama was a state that we have never shared before here on the blog, news to me ....we have visited Alabama multiple times I wonder why I've never shared it before, has me super curious??! Now that's a different kind of house. But I love it! Looks like a great place to eat. We had smoked bologna yesterday. If you haven't had it, I suggest you give it a try sometime. Hope you have a lovely week ahead.

I can think of one octagonal house in my province, but strongly doubt I could ever find it again.

"Bar U Ranch" , National Historic Site.   Backbone Rock Tunnel, Shady Valley, Tennessee "spur ridge on Holston Mtn that abruptly ends at a bend in Beaverdam Creek. tunnel was drilled through rock in 1901 to allow railroad access between Shady Valley and Damascus, Virginia" Hey There, don't ya love it when you are driving along and find a neat spot? …this tunnel was a busier road, got to see it from both sides of the road ...very cool.
